As SMT technology evolves with the continued miniturisation of the assembly process, smaller and thinner components continue to be created. Even with the the greater amount of importance given to processors, for al intents and purposes these are no more than singular components, even if with a large number of closely positioned connections. Most components placed in the SMD process are resistors and capacitors which largely determine the size of the finished board. However, in order to take advantage of this progressive miniaturisation it is necessary to continually reduce the space between components, rarely a simple task.
